Griha Pravesh Pujan, also known as Housewarming Ceremony, is a Hindu ritual performed before moving into a new home or residence. The ceremony is believed to purify the space and seek the blessings of the deities and cosmic forces for the well-being, prosperity, and happiness of the occupants.

Here’s a general outline of how the Griha Pravesh Pujan is conducted:

1. Auspicious Date and Time: Before performing the ceremony, an auspicious date and time are determined based on the Hindu calendar and astrological considerations. It is usually conducted during an auspicious period, such as specific days or months.

2. Preparation: The house is thoroughly cleaned and decorated with flowers, rangoli (decorative patterns made on the floor with colored powder), and other traditional elements to create a welcoming and auspicious ambiance.

3. Vedic Pujas and Rituals: A priest or a knowledgeable person conducts the main rituals. The ceremony begins with the Ganesh Puja, seeking the blessings of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles.

4. Navagraha Puja: This involves worshiping the nine planetary deities to ensure harmony and positive energies in the new home.

5. Vastu Puja: In some cases, a Vastu Puja may be performed to honor and seek the blessings of Vastu Purusha, the deity responsible for the harmony of a building.

6. Havan or Homam: A sacred fire ritual is performed, similar to the one described in the previous “Lakshmi Havan” answer. This is done to invoke divine energies and purify the space.

7. Kalasha Sthapana: A Kalasha (a ceremonial pot) filled with water, coconut, and mango leaves is placed at the entrance of the house. The Kalasha symbolizes abundance and prosperity.

8. Mantra Chanting and Prayers: Throughout the ceremony, Vedic mantras and prayers are recited to invoke blessings and positive energies.

9. Aarti: The ceremony concludes with the traditional “Aarti” where a lamp with camphor is lit and waved in front of the deities, symbolizing the removal of darkness and ignorance.

After the Griha Pravesh Pujan, the family usually enters the new home with the blessings of the deities and begins their new phase of life. The ceremony is often followed by a feast or a celebratory meal with family and friends.
